Thick knitted potholders will come in handy in every kitchen, so check out our selection of free patterns! They are colorful, textured, and, most importantly, do their job.

Hand-knitted potholder should be thick and made with cotton yarn. Why? So that it doesn’t melt in contact with hot pots and pans. What’s more, cotton yarn absorbs moisture, so you can use it to clean up any mess as well.

Always go for double-thick potholders or ones with very dense stitches. It’s definitely better to be safe than sorry.

Sunburst Pot Holder

These potholders by Purl Soho remind me of pinwheels or candy. Depending on the colors you choose, these little ones can be elegant or very playful. There are thirteen different color bundles available for this project, and each one allows you to make 3 of these potholders.

Twill Pot Holder

For a moment I thought that these potholders are crocheted, but it is indeed knitting! Hiromi, who is the author of this knitted potholder pattern, used a very simple cable pattern to create this woven effect. Take a look at the photos and see how great it looks in two colors.
